Various Artists - Framing Sculpture
Boijmans Van Beuningen
3015 CX Rotterdam
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is bringing together masterpieces from all over the world by three pioneers of modern art. In the beginning of the twentieth century Constantin Brancusi (1872-1957), Medardo Rosso (1858-1928) and Man Ray (1890-1976) all worked together in Paris. Framing Sculpture displays over 40 sculptures, many of which have never been seen in the Netherlands, along with over 100 vintage photographs made by Brancusi, Rosso and Ray. The artists photographed their own sculptures, changing the appearance of their masterpieces by adding dramatic lighting, innovative camera positions or manipulating the prints. The sculptures are presented together with the artists’ photographs of their sculptures, which show personal and often surprising perspectives on their own works.
