As a biologist, Sarah Engelhard (Lukulu, Zambia, 1980) is fascinated by the human trials left behind in nature. In 2009 and 2010 she went to Indonesia and Curacao to do research and to make a new photo series. The images of Plastic Drift show plastic debris that had been washed up onto the beaches by the ocean. Engelhard collected the litter and took it back into the water. The arrangement of the objects in the umfield of coloured coral and the ocean blue result in striking images which almost draw aside the attention from the problem of environmental pollution.
The series Plastic Drift was funded by het Fonds BKVB and is on show until October 14 at the Cultural Speech gallery in Amsterdam, see here.
