Urbanistan

The word ‘Urbanistan’ conjures images in the mind of bustling foreign cities, from the hectic roads of Mumbai to the ordered chaos of Tokyo, but Slovenian photographer Matjaž Krivic has decided to capture the road less travelled. In a sort of antidote to the business of the city, Krivic went to the outskirts and found people who are surviving on the margins of total existential, religious, economic and geopolitical chaos. These colourful, characteristic images document a myriad of different faces and are snapshots of the daily lives of people all over the world, be that studying in a half-empty school in Jaipur or riding a horse through the mountains of Mongolia. They remind the viewer that life exists past the racket and urban angst of Western society, a story of survival through religion, tradition and rituals.
