Déjà vu

Monica Ragazzini (1967, Italy) has a fascination for doubling. Man has always tried to double himself in the search for self-knowledge. Before photography, only water and mirrors allowed man to have direct knowledge of his image, raising the question: “If there are two of me, which one of us is real?” In her latest work Déjà Vu, Ragazzini investigates this further in relation to twin sisters. Instead of the interaction between the two, she photographed their reflections in a mirror. They are literally inside the mirror posing alone one after another, after which they are melded together using the double-exposure technique.
