Happy Dream Train

In Happy Dream Train, the Barcelona-based photographer Katia Repina (Moscow 1988) paints a picture of the lives of her distant Russian family, whom she decided to reconcile with after years without contact. Katia’s great-grandfather Stepan had ten children, of which four are still alive today. The families are spread throughout Russia and Ukraine – due to the breakdown of the URSS accompanied by a disintegration of the country and its people – and communication between them is nearly non-existent. Katia documented the lives of her enstranged family members who all have separate stories to tell, and through which she becomes acquainted with the customs of modern-day Russian life.
