Terrenal

Jose Luis Cuavas (1973) closely encountered ‘Creciendo en Gracia’ (‘Growing in Grace’), a religious group from Bogotá, Colombia. They adore a controversial Puerto Rican man from Miami, José Luis Jesús Miranda, who considers himself God on earth. The sectarians are identified by a triple “6” and a triple “S” tattooed on their body. In Latin America this group has small branches in almost all Latin American countries. The series is part of a larger project entitled ‘Terrenal’ (‘Mundane’), an ironic reference to the earthly exercise of ‘spirituality’.
