After graduating from the Utrecht School of Arts in the Netherlands in 2005, Dutch artists Thijs groot Wassink (1981) and Ruben Lundgren (1983) have worked together on photography and film projects that turn mundane, often unnoticeable, everyday occurrences into visually compelling and gently amusing observations of the world around us. Tokyo Tokyo is their latest book, consisting of a series of diptychs in which the mythical ‘decisive moment’ of traditional documentary photography is lampooned. For weeks on end, the dynamic duo wandered through Tokyo, a city that was at the same time strange and familiar, resulting in a double impression of the people and places they encountered in split seconds.
