For Murat Germen (Istanbul) photography is an opportunity to find things others often ignore. In his attempts to defamiliarise ordinariness, he has created a multidimensional cityscape of his hometown Istanbul. Muta-morphosis is a logical result of the traces left by various people; the co-existence of slices of time. For what else is this city than an urban complexity? There is a dynamic between the architectural components that can persist and the ones that give up, vanish in the various historical, residential and business districts. These panoramas, which can be linked to Ottoman miniatures, thus serve as monuments for a mutating, metamorphic metropolitan tissue.
