#26 — Vernacular

GUP#26 tries to explore the meaning of the word vernacular. What is vernacular photography..? The word itself contains so much that its meaning remains empty. Luckily, we had the opportunity to browse through Erik Kessels' shed of stumbled-upon footage. And so climbing that attic is our attempt to point out the range of the 'vernacular'; from the archival documentation of Andrea Stultiens to the artistic interventions of Chantal Rens and Paul Bogaers.

From the conscious search to the coincidental find, it is all here. Still, it is only the tip of the iceberg. For what 'vernacular' essentially represents is not much the few pictures that have been found, but the many elements of photography that have always been neglected and forgotten. You are hereby invited to discover the beauty of the damned.
