Berlin’s Galerie Hitawsky has partenered with the Lee Miller Archives, in Sussex, England, to display some of the great works by the renowned and iconic American photographer Lee Miller. Approximately 40 images, most of which are portraits from Miller’s Paris years, from 1929 to 1932, of the likes of Picasso and Marlene Dietrich, are featured in the exhibition. Miller’s subjects are often depicted informaly, evidencing her proximity to them, photographing them as not merely subjects but as friends.
The exhibition also features images from the time Lee Miller spent in Egypt, as well as from her days as a war correspondent with the US Armed Forces. The collection, furthremore, accentutates the photographer’s inclination toward surrealist potrayals, partly resulting from her work with Man Ray.
