Roger Ballen - Asylum
Described by Roger Ballen himself as the convergence bewteen Surrealism and Art Brut, the series and exhibition entitled Asylm is now being featured by the Musée de l’Élysée, in Lausanne, Switzerland. Based in South Africa since the 1970s, Ballen has sought to explore the ambiguous and unsettling, having found the subject for the body of work Asylum in an old mining house and former warehouse in Johannesburg.
The result is a collection of black and white images wherein the background and foregorund seem to be compressed into one, and unusual encounters translate to explorations into the human pscyhe.
The Musée de l’Elysée will feature Ballen’s work until 2 September. For more on the artist visit his website.
