Event details

The back-story to Petra Noordkamp’s latest exhibited work, entitled La Madre, yields her photographs a strange and unexpected meaning. La Madre came about when Noordkamp visited Siciliy for a photo project entitled Cinecittà. There she encountered the work of Ludovico Quaroni in the shape of the spherical church La Chiesa Madre, whose son, Emilio, she had once been involved with and who, she had recently discovered, had murdered his own mother. Though toying with the idea of a project inspired by the tragic happening, nothing ever materialised, up until her visit to Sicily.

Alongside the exhibited photographs is a film entitled La madre, il figlio e l’architetto, wherein the artist explores the relationship between the family tragedy and Quaroni’s modernist architectural design, one obviously influenced by her knowledge of the events and her involvement with Emilio Quaroni.
