Event details

Josef Koudelka’s renowned and enduring photographic study of the gypsies of Eastern Europe is now on display at the Fondazione Forma per la Fotografia. The exhibition features 109 images, and expands on the initial 60 photographs that together comprised the book Gitans, La Fin du Voyage, published in Paris, in 1975,

The photographs span a period of 9 years, from 1962 to 1971, during which Koudelka became engrossed first by the physical appearance and later the lifestyle of Eastern European gypsies. Ordinary and quotidian moments are captured, whereby the familiar becomes evident in a deeply unfamiliar realm, as Koudelka places his subjects on the same level as his viewers, while also documenting the dwindling end of gypsy nomadism.

Gypsies is on view until September 16. For more information visit Fondazione Forma’s website
