As a retrospective of sorts, the Galerie Sakura, in Paris, showcases the quirky work of Sacha Goldberger, which features his 93-year old grandmother in the guise of her super-hero alter-ego Super Mamika. As a means of helping his grandmother, Frederika, out of depression, Sacha Goldberger began chronicling the adventures of Super Mamika, dressing her Frederika up a super-hero and having her pose for him in a series of comic-inspired costumes and settings. Goldberger has recently added new characters to the series: her husband Super Papika and even a lover, Super Papouka. 

The photographer’s wit and humour are conveyed in his eccentrically staged portraits of Frederika, in addition to a more serious message, whereby the photographer attempts to ‘show that old age can also be joyful, even if, in certain images, we’re unsure if what we see if humor or senility’.

Sacha Goldberger’s work will also be featured in the Promenades Photographiques, in Vêndome, Paris, from June 22.
