Event details

In this day and age, being a teenager in Britain can be difficult. Tabloid newspapers often portray young people as being a generation of "violent, illiterate young men living outside the boundaries of civilised society”. The question remains, to what extent is the media right in depicting a part of the British youth in such a denigrating manner?

The Newcastle-born photographer Ewen Spencer (1971) spent the last fifteen years documenting the British youth in the inner cities of Britain. His sensitive depictions of his protagonists provide a much more in-depth look than the media offers to us, of a generation often misunderstood. The youth he documents prove to be part of a complex culture, raging with emotions and often filled with creativity.
