An innovator in the fields of fashion, portrait, and still life photography, Irving Penn can be seen as one of the leading photographers of our time. His extensive career lasted over 60 years, and was characterized by his unique, minimalist approach to photography. A longtime photographer for the fashion magazine Vogue, Penn shot his images almost exclusively in the studio; tending to every detail, and carefully directing any subject he had in front of him.

With a selection of almost 100 of Penn’s photographs plus many examples of his work in publications, this exhibition presents the broad spectrum of Penn’s photographic oeuvre. The Moderna Museet’s extensive collection of Irving Penn photographs illustrated the many genres he explored.
