Event details

Michael Hoppen Gallery is pleased to present French artist Valérie Belin’s latest series ‘Yohoho’. The famous burlesque and cabaret clubs of Paris take centre position in Belin’s photo series. She shot all of the images at Le Moulin Rouge and Le Lido, documenting the well-known yet still mysterious world in an interesting way. By layering two negatives together, she creates an entirely new image, that still references to the loaded history of the places. “Cabaret settings are false illusions of an external world; they are artificial images, enchanting fantasies,” Belin mentioned.

The exhibition will showcase twelve black and white silver gelatin prints from Yohoho. Born in 1964 in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, Valérie Belin lives and works in Paris. Her work is part of many collections worldwide – including the MoMA NYC, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Huis Marseille in Amsterdam.
