Event details
After the success of the festival Visionair Afrika in 2010, BOZAR will host an extensive event celebrating African photography, from June 14th until August 26th. BOZAR strives to stimulate the African creative industry by providing a platform for creativity. In collaboration with Tour & Taxis and the Royal Museum for Central Africa, BOZAR will present the 9th edition of the Pan African Photography Biennale. Having taken place in Mali from November 1st 2011 until January 1st 2012, the Biennale will now travel to Brussel for the summer.
Central theme for the Biennale is ‘search for a sustainable world’. The main exhibition Pan-African Photography: For a Sustainable World will be hosted in the buildings of Tour & Taxis. The exhibition gives an overview of contemporary African photography, featuring 281 photographs and 10 short films by artists of different backgrounds and generations. The work of Pieter Hugo, Michael Tsegaye and Calvin Dondo will be featured amongst others. Two monographic exhibitions featuring photographers Kiripi Katembo and Abdoulaye Barry will be hosted at the Royal Museum for Central Africa.
The exhibitions coincide with the BOZAR Summer of Photography. For more information on the exhibitions and other events taking place as part of the Biennale, visit the website.
