Through the use of photography, the internationally renowned artist Hiroshi Sugimoto has sought to uncover the essence of what it is to be human. This exhibition explores the history of the human race through the history of clothing. At its core is Sugimoto’s Stylized Sculptures, a series of photographs that looks at modern history through its fashion trends. Interwoven with these are various photographs from his Diorama and Portraits series, and a selection of his costume designs. Displaying an expressive range that has encompassed a variety of mediums in recent years, Sugimoto posits the question: What does it mean to be clothed?
