Event details

Rineke Dijkstra’s photographs contain a classical simplicity and a sense of craftmanship reminiscent of old Dutch painting masters. With her work, she presents a unique contemporary take on the genre of portraiture. Fascinated by people who are in an altering state, she is able to record the shifting inner souls of adolescents, soldier and new mothers amongst other individuals. Her sensitive portraits therefore contain a striking psychological depth that go much further than simply capturing a person’s physical appearance. The exhibition, which is Dijkstra’s first major retrospective in the United States, brings together 70-large scale color photographs and five video installations.
