Event details
Intrigued by ‘the family’, Dutch novelist Arnon Grunberg started researching this phenomenon by taking part in the lives of several households in the Dutch city of Utrecht, in order to gain insight into the dynamics of family life. For the exhibition ‘Les vacances de Monsieur Grunberg’, Grunberg continued his research by joining Maud and Nick van der Poel’s family on a trip to the Greek island of Lefkas. Artist Wendela Hubrecht traveled alongside Grunberg and the van der Poel’s, and recorded their experiences. Besides this, the family was given throw-away camera’s to take photographs themselves. With this project, Grunberg and Hubrecht were able to study more in depth the dynamics that go with being part of a family, and seek to answer questions like; What is a family? What is private? And where is the limit? The outcome of this project is on display at FOAM, where a combination of Hubrechts photographs and the van der Poel’s snapshots are being exhibited, as well as a selection of texts and film.
