Deichtorhallen, The House of Photography, savours the photographer and artist Saul Leiter in the first world-wide retrospective. Covering more than 400 works, the exhibition includes some of his early black & white and color photography, as well as his fashion photography and more recent street photographs. A master of street photography, Leiter is able to give the impulse of the city as a visual expression without the usual distant perspective, touching the world with his camera lens like an artist touches the canvas with his brush. Conveying his dream world; a sense of mystery that strikes a responsive chord somewhere in the subconscious. Leiter’s photographs are not readily discussed but deeply felt.
