Event details

Is it possible to document the life of an undocumented person who has lived illegally in the Netherlands since 2001, including all inherent fears and uncertainties, without creating a manifesto that links its authors to certain political views? 53 year old Gualbert from Niger has been living and working illegally in Amsterdam for almost ten years now. Photographer Ben Krewinkel documented the life of this man, who officially does not exist. By using a collaborative approach, by adding a collection of personal photographs, letters, fragments of conversations and official documents Krewinkel created a more personal story, in which his role of the intruding and biased bystander leaves sufficient room for interpretation. This eventually gives a more insight ful view into the fragmented life of an illegal and alienated man with an actual life but without an official identity.
