In his photobook Urban Dirt Bikes, British photographer Spencer Murphy portrays the personalities of an increasingly popular underground ‘Bike Life’ scene. Through portraits of bikers together with their rides, shots of the road and close-ups of the bikes, Murphy paints a picture of the freewheeling spirit of cycling in the city. Quotes from bikers are scattered through the book, describing times they have fallen and injured themselves to sharing the exhilaration of riding a dirt bike, giving insight into the joys and hardships involved. The result is a survey of the many modes of expression found in this urban passion.
Urban Dirt Bikers was featured in GUP#54, the Playful issue.
