Who has not heard of the Chernobyl disaster? Now, 23 years later, the fallout of that nuclear disaster and other nuclear energy projects in the former Soviet Union are still very present. Between 1999 and 2005 photographer Robert Knoth and journalist Antoinette de Jong travelled through Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Belarus, the Urals and Siberia. They recorded the stories of people who – often without even realising it – live in these nuclear disaster areas.
