On August 21, 1968, Russian tanks invaded the city of Prague. The troops of the Warsaw pact invasion brought a brutal end to a period of liberalization and socialism known as the ‘Prague Spring’. The young photographer Joseph Koudelka was there to capture that particluar dark period. His pictures were smuggled out of the country and became famous throughout the Magnum collective. Forty years later, Koudelka publishes a range of daring photos that were taken during the first seven days of the occupation. Witness the violence, despair and resistance.
