A staggering one billion people live in slums. One person’s worst nightmare is another’s daily life. For those people the financial crisis is never-ending, poverty is all there is. Magnum photographer Jonas Bendiksen travelled to four different slums located in Nairobi, Mumbai, Jakarta and Caracas, to capture the living conditions so far removed from our existence. By listening to the people who live in the slums and adding these personal stories to his exceptional photos, he has succeeded in showing the world what is going on in the slums, for real. The book contains twenty double foldout photos, each one covering four walls of one home. The inhabitants of the homes tell the story of their lives on the intervening pages. An unforgettable book.
