In 1957, Dutch photographer Frits Gerritsen visited the Canadian Pitt Polder, a special wetlands area that was drained and reclaimed by Dutch labourers to render the soil fertile for agricultural use. In 2005 and 2006, photographer Andrea Stultiens visited this small polder east of Vancouver. She sought out the places that Gerritsen had photographed almost fifty years earlier. She spoke to former emigrants and placed her own work next to their visual material with which they had documented their new lives and surroundings.
