Ed van der Elsken (1925-1990) was one of the most influential post-war figures in Dutch photography. His coarse-grained photos capture the city and its inhabitants in all their guises. They were all symbolic of Van der Elsken’s Amsterdam. For this book he picked out his best old black and whites of Amsterdam. From the cosy 50’s to the riots in the 60’s. As always, delightfully unpolished and accompanied by Van der Elsken’s scribbled notes.
