From today until March 8, documentary and editorial photographer William Widmer will be taking over the GUP Instagram, sharing, among other things, new and old work from his ongoing personal project Postcards from Pine Bluff. In recent years, Pine Bluff, Arkansas was voted the second most dangerous metropolitan area in the U.S. and roughly one third of its residents live below the national poverty line. Once a major agricultural and industrial centre of the South, Pine Bluff has deteriorated slowly through the past several decades. Widmer is interested in the landscape of this ailing Southern town.
Widmer spends most of his time in New Orleans, Louisiana. He’s a frequent contributor to The New York Times and covers news and feature stories throughout the South. He will be posting images from New Orleans and Mississippi.
