From today and until February 27, Brooklyn-based photographer Natalie Keyssar will be taking over the GUP Instagram, sharing work that focuses on youth culture, activism, and the effects of political tension on society. Having studied painting at college, she uses her love of fine art and history to influence her work, as well as being a founding member of the documentary photography collective, Black Box. Her current projects document post-Chavez Venezuela, and the Black Lives Matter movement in the US. She will be posting images and outtakes from her project Flatbush Arabesque, which documented a teenage Jamaican dancehall queen and ballet student over two years, examining sexuality, cultural identity, and the near constant street violence which still plagues central Brooklyn.
