Around 1900 the dynamic city of Amsterdam and the modern medium of photography mix. Landmark buildings like Central Station, the Berlage Exchange and the Hirsch Building were shaping the city’s new face. The industry and the port evolved, but at the same time the intercity dilapidated and poverty was omnipresent. For the first time it was technically possible to capture this on film. Research in museum collections and archives have yielded treasures of unknown images. The collection of photographs from famous as well as unknown photographers, illustrates an unique and rich overview of this period in time of Amsterdam and its photography.
