Firecracker, an online platform directed towards promoting and supporting European female photographers, is welcoming applications for the 2012 Firecracker Photographic Grant. £1,000 in funding will be awarded to the applicant who presents the strongest portfolio and written statement as to how the grant will be used. The grant aims to financially assist the awarded photographer in the completion of a documentary photography project.
Applications are restricted to female photographers who were either born or currently reside in Europe, and whose submitted project must have been started within the last 5 years. The panel of judges includes such names as Director of Panos Profile Francesca Sears, photographer Simon Roberts and the British Journal of Photography’s Deputy Editor, Diane Smyth.
Firecracker was an initiative of Fiona Rogers, Magnum Photos London’s current Cultural and Education Manager. It begun in 2011 and this is its inaugural grant.
The deadline for applications is July 22, and the winner will be announced in September of 2012.
