Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize 2011

The Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize, which will be exhibiting from November 10th 2011 until February 2012 at the National Portrait Gallery London, showcases the work of some of the most talented emerging photographers, as well as existing professional, photography students and talented amateurs.

The diversity in style and approaches reflects the international mix of entrants and their varying takes on the portrait, editorial, advertising and fine art genres. The judges have selected 60 photographs from a staggering 6,000 entries, entered by 2,506 different photographers. The competition includes ELLE, who will commission a photographer, from the exhibition, to shoot a feature story, this will also be exhibited alongside the first prize winner and the four runners-up. 

The following five photographers have been shortlisted for the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2011: Jasper Clarke for Wen, portrait of a Chinese artist who lives in his workspace, Dave Knight for Andie, wanting to raise awareness about Cerebral Palsy, Dona Schwartz for Christina and Mark, documenting moments of change in parents’ lives, Jooney Woodward for Harriet and Gentleman Jack, a steward at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show and Jill Wooster for Lili, part of a series that portrays women in their forties.The winner will be announced on the November 8th 2011 at 7pm.
